Skyline Thoroughbreds

Skyline Thoroughbreds is a new venture offering facilities to successfully raise weanlings and yearlings, as well as boutique yearling preparation and consignment at the major European bloodstock sales.

We bring our fresh enthusiasm and ambition to combine with the well established Glebe Stud and the outstanding proven record of Gerry Meehan.

  • Gerry Meehan as Stud Manager and Partner brings over 30 years of experience and results in yearling preparation at leading studs. As Yearling Manager at Newsells Park Stud he was a key architect of their consistent place amongst the top consignors at Tattersalls Books 1 and 2.
  • Based at Glebe Stud, Cheveley, just outside Newmarket, Skyline Thoroughbreds benefits from well-appointed facilities with a proven record as a successful breeding establishment. Extensive work has been undertaken to enhance these facilities.

Taking on Glebe Stud and embarking on Skyline Thoroughbreds in partnership with Gerry Meehan is the realisation of a long-held dream of husband and wife team Simon and Emma Capon, and Emma’s father Tom Wilson.

Gerry Meehan

Stud Manager and Partner

Gerry Meehan joined Skyline Thoroughbreds at its inception in March 2019 as Stud Manager and Partner. As the Yearling Manager at Newsells Park Stud for the last 17 years, Gerry brings with him immense experience and is held in the highest regard within the industry. His expertise and dedication was instrumental in Newsells Park Stud being consistently amongst the top consignors in Books 1 and 2 at Tattersalls over recent years and also topping the 2018 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster. Gerry’s passion and expertise were recognised in winning the Stud Staff Award at the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards in 2014. Prior to joining Newsells Park, Gerry held similar roles at Side Hill Stud, Cheveley Park Stud and Fair Winter Farm.

Simon Capon

Simon grew up around horses and worked in a large show-jumping operation, where his responsibilities included transporting horses throughout European circuits. He went on to work for a farming, construction and haulage firm where he gained extensive experience of machinery and grassland management. As Simon developed his interest in bloodstock he joined Newsells Park Stud where he worked with mares/foals and alongside Gerry Meehan in yearling preparation. He went on to broaden his experience of the racing and bloodstock industry as Assistant Trainer to Charlie Fellowes for a season and then supporting Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock for two sales seasons at Goffs, Tattersalls, Arqana and Keeneland.

Dr Emma Capon

Emma inherited her passion for horses and interest in thoroughbreds from her father, Tom Wilson, a lifelong owner-breeder enthusiast. Together they have run a small private bloodstock company for the last few years. Emma brings business and organisational skills to the operation through her prior career in Civil Service management roles and having completed a MBA and a PhD in Business and Management. She holds a first-class honours degree from St Catharine's College, Cambridge, and was twice individual gold medalist at the Show-Jumping Pony European Championships.

Vicky Holloran

Assistant Stud Groom

Vicky joined Skyline Thoroughbreds in June 2019 having spent five years at Newsells Park Stud where she worked with yearlings and in the foaling unit. She was barn leader for two of these years, looking after such stars as Goldikova and Solemia and travelling as a key team member to all the major European bloodstock sales. Prior to this Vicky gained valuable experience as a stud hand at Stanley House Stud, Newmarket. Yearling prep and sales

    Yearling prep and sales

Every horse at Skyline Thoroughbreds is treated as an individual, with exercise, nutrition and care routines developed on a tailored basis. Through focusing on quality rather than quantity the team is able to genuinely provide this individual focus on a consistent basis.

Gerry Meehan’s proven track record in yearling preparation and consignment shapes the entire regime and has been developed to ensure horses peak at the optimum time for their sale and are properly prepared for the challenges of a racing career.

Skyline Thoroughbreds will not consign yearlings which we have not prepared. We firmly believe that a holistic preparation routine over several months is essential for yearlings to be at their peak for the sale. Where applicable we will prepare yearlings for owners to then consign themselves if they so wish.

Key elements of the Skyline Thoroughbreds approach:
    • Variety in activity: the exercise routine involves a dynamic combination of hand walking, exercise on a walker and daily paddock time.
    • Tailored nutrition using our own recipe feed mix to ensure excellent muscle development and all round condition; each yearling is fed according to their individual requirements.
    • Gerry Meehan uses proven traditional techniques reflecting true horsemanship going back generations to prepare yearlings for sale.
    • Isolation yard with 8 boxes and separate access
    • Nothing left to chance – all aspects of each horse continually assessed and monitored.

Skyline Thoroughbreds recognises that as well as expert preparation, choosing the right sale for each horse is absolutely critical. This is given careful thought by the team along with the owner. Each individual yearling is carefully scrutinised to make an informed decision.

We are happy to handle all aspects of the sales process, including pedigree proofs, sales entries and the auction, while maintaining open communication with owners throughout.
